Lavender Sachets to keep your home fresh & naturally bug free

time to refresh our homes...

One of my favourite things is the scent of Spring… With winter slowly coming to an end, I wanted to refresh our home, and what best way to spruce up the house than by bringing in the smell of lavender.

For me, weekends are about doing little projects, something that is completely different from my day job and keeps me away from computer screens or even my phone. I really love to think about how to reuse or recycle what I have around the house… I am sure it will not be the first time that you’ve seen a tutorial for Lavender bags, but they are so easy to make and for me, a beautiful way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon indoors.

This is why I made these small little sachets from remnant pieces of fabrics and slipped dried lavender into them. These bags will live in my wardrobe, draws and even in the car, to keep the smell of summertime all year long!

keep bugs a way naturally...

Although most people love the smell of lavender, the good news is  moths, mites, lice, bedbugs,  fleas, flies and mosquitoes hate it.

Lavender has been used for centuries in homes and clothes drawers to repel insects…  and if you are looking to avoid chemicals, lavender is a safe and effective alternative for getting rid of all those unwanted little pesties, even spiders!

And the best bit is that it is calming and pleasing to humans and household pets.

So keep your home natural and smelling delicious with these little lavender bags…

before we begin...

I used some lavender that I had left over from the last summer harvest. I keep my lavender in an air tight container so it is perfectly dried and ready to use.

I was having so much fun that I made two methods, both are super easy.

Option 1 is ideal for clothes draws and to slip in between stacks of sheets or bedlinen.

Option 2 is ideal for clothes hangers, hanging in your cars or even behind door handles…

Let's get started..

Option 1

    What you will need...

    • Dried lavender
    • Fabric
    • Sewing Machine or Needle and thread
    • Scissors
    • Sheers Scissors

    How to...

    1

Cut 2 squares of 15 cm by 15 cm.

    How to...

    2

Lay your fabric back to back print sides facing outwards, and fix 3 sides with needles.

    3

Sew the 2 squares together with the sewing machine if you have one but it is also done very quickly by hand.

    4

Fill with lavender and sew the top edge.

    5

Trim all the edges with the sheering scissors.

    Et voilà… c’est tout!  ♥♥♥

    Option 2

      What you will need...

      • Dried lavender
      • Fabric
      • Sewing Machine or Needle and thread
      • Scissors
      • Sheers Scissors
      • Suede Straps
      • Rivet Kits

      How to...

      1

Cut a rectangle of 20 cm by 10 cm.

      2

Sew the hems on the wrong side of the fabric. To make it easier, remember to iron the hem so that it fits well before sewing.

      3

Join the two ends, right sides together.

      4

Sew the edges together with the sewing machine if you have one but it is also done very quickly by hand.

      5

Turn the sachet over, pushing out the corner with the tip of your scissors to make sure your corners are nice and square.

      6

Fill with lavender and sew the top edge. Trim the edge with the sheering scissors.

      7

Cut a strip of suede of about 15 cm and fix with rivets.

      Et voilà… c’est tout!  ♥♥♥
