An Autumnal Table Inspiration

Gently sliding into winter with our friend, autumn guiding the way.

Autumn is perfect time to bring nature in our home. Here is my inspiration and ideas for adorning our tables with rich colours.

Autumn is possibly the easiest time to create a gorgeous table. The season’s colours are simply prefect and utterly inspiring. It is also a great time to go out and gather small branches, leaves, moss or dried flowers to make a stunning tablescape and to lift the mood.

I am very fortunate to have an awesome PYO flower farm just minutes from my house. So for this table I chose to go with a lovely palette of deep arterial red, contrasting soft roses and peach colours. It was quite a challenge to keep to my palette when at the flower farm, as it is so easy to get overwhelmed and charmed by the beautiful colours of thousands of flowers. The queen of Autumn has to be the Dhalia, she stands so proud and in an amplitude of colours and shapes. I decided she should dominate and be the main focus of my autumn table. Another thing that I really wanted to use was amaranth. I had seen it in the field on my previous visit and was very keen to use it. Amaranth comes with a very small stem so I made a mental note that the vessel I should use should be able to accommodate it.

When I returned home I scoured our surrounding hedges and found an abundance of Snowberries and deep green foliage. Now ready to assemble, I chose 2 shallow vintage dishes that I first packed up with chicken wire and then embellished the flowers.

Lastly I added a few dried flowers that I kept from a summer arrangement (unfortunately I have no idea what it was) and for the final touch a couple large dried lotus flowers that I have been reusing for years. Each time I adjust a piece of wire that I attached to the back and voilà, my tablescape is done.

I created a small version that I put on the mantelpiece near the dining table and put the remains of the blooms in a simple glass vase that I will display on the other side of the room to carry on the autumnal mood throughout the room.

Since the display of flowers was so rich, I decided to keep the table very simple with just a few amber coloured candles, cream plates and gold cutlery. However, for an evening soirée, I always adorn the table with plenty of glasses as I love seeing them scintillating under the candle light!

Now before my guests arrive, the last thing I had to do was to light the candles on the table and a scented candle on the coffee table to accompany the blooming glass vase. To match the mood I chose geranium and ylang ylang.

And all at once, Summer collapsed into Fall
